Abstract
Abstract An information storage medium includes a substrate and a recording layer in which a portion irradiated with a light beam is subjected to a phase transformation between different phases. Upon radiation of a light beam having specific conditions, the recording layer exhibits a state in which both an amorphous phase and a non-equilibrium crystalline phase are present. This state corresponds to a recorded or erased state.
