Abstract
Abstract A method and apparatus for conducting electrophoretic separations is described in which heat exchange fluid is passed through hollow fibers in the electrophoretic chamber during the separation process and the separations are conducted in the interstices of the hollow fiber. Hollow fibers made of organic polymers, inorganic materials such as glass and silica, and natural fibers may be used.

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
127 words
A system for conducting an electrophoretic separation comprising, an electrophoresis chamber having an anode and a cathode positioned across the chamber to provide current flow through said chamber, a plurality of hollow fibers packed in said chamber and passing through the chamber, said fibers having inlets and outlets, means to introduce heat exchange fluid through said fibers, means at one end of said chamber to introduce a solution to be separated, means to remove solution from the opposite end of the chamber in a plurality of streams, the packing of the fibers being arranged to provide sufficient space therebetween to permit the solution to be separated to flow from one end of the chamber to the other in the interstices provided between the fibers by the packing.
