Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim
122 words
A lens adapted to be worn on or implanted in the eye, comprising: a central portion of selected transmissivity such that the central portion transmits more light energy at a center of the central portion and less light energy toward an outer region of the central portion; and an annular mask region surrounding the central portion wherein the annular mask region adjacent to the outer region of the central portion has a transmissivity below which the annular mask region functions as essentially opaque, remains at that amount of transmissivity or less for a distance in the range of about 0.5 millimeters to about 4.0 millimeters, then increases in transmissivity until reaching an outer edge of the annular mask region of the lens.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
122 words
A lens adapted to be worn on or implanted in the eye, comprising: a central portion of selected transmissivity such that the central portion transmits more light energy at a center of the central portion and less light energy toward an outer region of the central portion; and an annular mask region surrounding the central portion wherein the annular mask region adjacent to the outer region of the central portion has a transmissivity below which the annular mask region functions as essentially opaque, remains at that amount of transmissivity or less for a distance in the range of about 1.5 millimeters to about 2.0 millimeters, then increases in transmissivity until reaching an outer edge of the annular mask region or the lens.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
122 words

Claim 5
Dependent Claim
149 words
A lens adapted to be worn on or implanted in the eye, comprising: a clear aperture; an annular portion adjacent to the clear aperture which transmits more light energy at an inner region and less light energy toward an outer region; and an annular mask region adjacent to the outer region of the annular portion, wherein a part of the annular portion adjacent to the clear aperture provides about 100% transmissivity and wherein the annular portion decreases from about the 100% transmissivity and transitions to the annular mask region and a transmissivity below which the annular mask region functions as essentially opaque, the annular mask region remains at that amount of transmissivity or less for a distance in the range of about 0.5 millimeters to about 4.0 millimeters, then the annular mask region increases in transmissivity until reaching an outer edge of the annular mask region of the lens.
