Abstract

Abstract A concentric bifocal contact lens (10) is disclosed. The lens has a first distance power correction region (61) of circular periphery in the central portion thereof, surrounded in succession by a concentric near power correction annular region (31) and a concentric second distance power correction annular region (41). Under bright conditions, when the pupil of the eye is small, the central distance power region is helpful in achieving good distance vision.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 57 words
A bifocal lens comprising a body (10) for mounting in conjunction with an eye, the body having a first distance power correction region (61) of substantially circular periphery in the central portion thereof, surrounded in succession by a substantially concentric near power correction annular region (31) and a substantially concentric second distance power correction annular region (41).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 57 words
A bifocal lens comprising a body (10) for mounting in conjunction with an eye, the body having a first distance power correction region (61) of substantially circular periphery in the central portion thereof, surrounded in succession by a substantially concentric near power correction annular region (31) and a substantially concentric second distance power correction annular region (41).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 33 words
A lens according to claim 1, wherein the near power annular region (31) has an area which is substantially equal to half the pupil area of the eye under average reading light conditions.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 34 words
A lens according to claim 2, wherein the near power annular region (31) has an area which is between 35% and 65% of the pupil area of the eye under average reading light conditions.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
A lens according to claim 3, wherein the near power annular region (31) has an area which is between 45% and 55% of the pupil area of the eye under average reading light conditions.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 29 words
A lens according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the diameter of the first distance power correction region (61) is in the range 0.5 mm and 1.5 mm.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 26 words
A lens according to claim 5, wherein the diameter of the first distance power correction region (61) is in the range 0.5 mm to 1.25 mm.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
A lens according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the lens body (10) is formed of a single piece of plastics material.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 13 words
