Abstract
Abstract Disclosed is a device for delivering tissue adhesives and/or sealant patches to a surface which covers or surrounds a lumen, cavity or organ, or potential lumen or cavity, within a human or other animal. Also disclosed is a method of delivering tissue adhesives and/or sealant patches to a surface which covers or surrounds a lumen, cavity or organ, or potential lumen or cavity. The method is particularly suited to sealing perforations in vascular walls, such as after arterial access for Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA), Percutaneous Coronary Angiography and Percutaneous Coronary Atherectomy and similar diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim
104 words
An applicator for percutaneously delivering a sealant patch to a surface of a perforated vascular wall, comprising: a tubular housing having a proximal end and a distal, atraumatic delivery end, said housing defining a reservoir for containing a volume of tissue adhesive and a recess which removably receives a patch, said reservoir being positioned proximal of said recess; a valve positioned in said housing between said reservoir and said recess to selectively place said reservoir in fluidic communication with said recess; and a control at the proximal end of the housing, for controlling the expression of adhesive from said reservoir and through said valve.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim

An applicator for percutaneously delivering a sealant patch to a surface of a perforated vascular wall, comprising: a tubular housing having a proximal end and a distal, atraumatic delivery end, said housing defining a reservoir for containing a volume of tissue adhesive and a recess which removably receives a patch, said reservoir being positioned proximal of said recess; a valve positioned in said housing between said reservoir and said recess to selectively place said reservoir in fluidic communication with said recess; and a control at the proximal end of the housing, for controlling the expression of adhesive from said reservoir and through said valve.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
20 words
The applicator of claim 1, wherein said control comprises a moveable plunge positioned at a proximal end of said reservoir.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
18 words
The applicator of claim 1, further comprising a biasing mechanism which biases said valve to be normally closed.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
63 words
A kit for sealing a perforated vascular wall, comprising: an applicator having a reservoir, an atraumatic delivery end, a valve adjacent said delivery end which selectively places said reservoir in fluidic communication with said delivery end, and an actuator to open said valve; a sealant patch adapted to be coupled to the delivery end of said applicator; and tissue adhesive in said reservoir.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
63 words
A kit for sealing a perforated vascular wall, comprising: an applicator having a reservoir, an atraumatic delivery end, a valve adjacent said delivery end which selectively places said reservoir in fluidic communication with said delivery end, and an actuator to open said valve; a sealant patch adapted to be coupled to the delivery end of said applicator; and tissue adhesive in said reservoir.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
52 words
The kit of claim 4, wherein the tissue adhesive is selected from the group consisting of methyl cyanoacrylate, ethyl cyanoacrylate, n-propyl cyanoacrylate, isopropyl cyanoacrylate, n-butyl cyanoacrylate, isobutyl cyanoacrylate, n-amyl cyanoacrylate, isoamyl cyanoacrylate, 3-acetoxypropyl cyanoacrylate, 2-methoxypropyl cyanoacrylate, 3-chloropropyl cyanoacrylate, benzyl cyanoacrylate, phenyl cyanoacrylate, alkenyl cyanoacrylate, butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, alkoxyalkyl 2-cyanoacrylates, fluorinated 2-cyanoacrylates and combinations thereof.
