Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 75 words
An optical waveguide comprising a light transmitting core material and a cladding material, wherein said core material (i) comprises a deuterated chemical compound in a first crystalline form; (ii) has optically second order nonlinear properties, and said cladding material (iii) comprises a deuterated chemical compound in second crystalline form; (iv) has a lower index of refraction than said core material; (v) partially or entirely encloses said core; (vi) can be converted to said core material.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 75 words
An optical waveguide comprising a light transmitting core material and a cladding material, wherein said core material (i) comprises a deuterated chemical compound in a first crystalline form; (ii) has optically second order nonlinear properties, and said cladding material (iii) comprises a deuterated chemical compound in second crystalline form; (iv) has a lower index of refraction than said core material; (v) partially or entirely encloses said core; (vi) can be converted to said core material.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 34 words
An optical waveguide in accordance with claim 1, wherein said deuterated chemical compound has the formula ##STR3## wherein each R 1 is independently an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic radical and R 2 is deuterium.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 33 words
An optical waveguide in accordance with claim 2, wherein each R 1 is independently (i) --CH 3 , or (ii) --CDH 2 , or (iii) --CD 2 H, or (iv) --CD 3 .
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 16 words
An optical waveguide in accordance with claim 2, wherein said chemical compound has the formula ##STR4##
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 17 words
An optical waveguide in accordance with claim 1, wherein said first crystalline form is an anhydrous form.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 17 words
An optical waveguide in accordance with claim 1, wherein said second crystalline form is a hydrated form.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 16 words
An optical waveguide in accordance with claim 1, wherein said core is in single crystal form.
