Abstract
Abstract Mixed metal salts (especially zinc salts) of dialkylphosphorodithioic acids and carboxylic acids, the ratio of equivalents of the dialkylphosphorodithioic to the carboxylic acid being between about 0.5:1 and about 4.5:1, are useful in lubricants and functional fluids (such as hydraulic fluids) as antioxidants and extreme pressure agents having improved thermal stability.

A mixed metal salt of (A) at least one acid of the formula ##STR2## wherein each of R 1 and R 2 is a hydrocarbon-based radical, and (B) at least one carboxylic acid having the formula R 3 COOH which contains from about 5 to about 20 carbon atoms and wherein R 3 is an aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbonbased radical; the ratio of equivalents of A to B being between 2.5:1 and about 4.5:1; up to about 2 equivalents of metal being present per equivalent of acid; and the metal being at least one of Group I metals, Group II metals, aluminum, tin, cobalt, lead, molybdenum, manganese and nickel.
