Abstract OIL SOLUBLE BASIC METAL SALTS OF ORGANIC ACIDS SUCH AS SULFONIC ACIDS, CARBOXYLIC ACIDS AND PHOSPHORUS ACIDS ARE OBTAINABLE BY THE REACTION OF SUCH ACIDS WITH AN EXCESS AMOUNT OF METAL BASE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ACIDIC GAS SUCH AS CARBON DIOXIDE AND A PROMOTER SUCH AS ALCOHOL UNDER SUBSTANTIALLY ANHYDROUS CONDITIONS.
