Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 58 words
A process for forming protective films on a nickel, chromium or iron alloy substrate surface susceptible to coke formation, comprising first preoxidizing said surface at an elevated temperature and then depositing on said preoxidized substrate surface a layer of silica by thermally decomposing an alkoxy silane vapor in a carrier gas in contact with the preoxidized substrate surface.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 58 words
A process for forming protective films on a nickel, chromium or iron alloy substrate surface susceptible to coke formation, comprising first preoxidizing said surface at an elevated temperature and then depositing on said preoxidized substrate surface a layer of silica by thermally decomposing an alkoxy silane vapor in a carrier gas in contact with the preoxidized substrate surface.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
A process as defined in claim 1 wherein said substrate surface is preoxidized at elevated temperatures in an oxidizing atmosphere of carbon dioxide or steam.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 27 words
A process according to claim 1 wherein the alkoxy silane is selected from mono-, di-, tri- and tetra alkoxysilane and the partially hydrolysed or polymerised products thereof.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 12 words
A process according to claim 3 wherein the alkoxy silane is tetraethoxysilane.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
A process according to claim 1 wherein the alkoxysilane is vapourised into a carrier gas stream selected from carbon dioxide, steam, nitrogen, helium and argon.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 22 words
A process according to claim 5 wherein the concentration of the alkoxysilane in the carrier gas is less than 10% by volume.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
A process according to claim 5 wherein the concentration of the alkoxysilane in the carrier gas is between 0.05 and 1.5% by volume.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 24 words
A process according to claim 1 wherein the silica layer is deposited on the substrate surface at a temperature between 200° and 1200° C.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 24 words
A process according to claim 1 wherein the silica layer is deposited on the substrate surface at a temperature between 600° and 900° C.
