Date May 22, 1997A method for the culture of hematopoietic cells is provided comprising culturing said cells in stromal conditioned medium comprising one or more cytokines selected from the group consisting of MIP-1 alpha , IL-3, SCF, BB10010 and PF-4, so that the ability of the stem cells to self-replicate and differentiate is maintained or the ability of the committed progenitors to expand and differentiate is maintained.

A method for culturing hematopoietic cells, comprising: culturing a population of human hematopoietic cells comprising stem cells or committed progenitor cells in a stromal conditioned medium in the absence of stromal cells, wherein the medium comprises an effective added amount of one or more cytokines selected from the group consisting of MIP-1α, IL-3, SCF, BB10010 and PF-4, so that the ability of the stem cells to self-replicate and differentiate is maintained or the ability of the committed progenitors to expand and differentiate is maintained.
