Abstract

Abstract An apparatus for decoding an input video signal includes edit header extracting circuit, decoding circuit and substitute image replacing circuit. The input video signal includes a sequence of first and second coded video signals, an edit header added to at least one of the decoded video signals before and after an editing point when the first and second coded video signals executed an interframe compression are edited at specified editing points. The edit header extracting circuit extracts an edit header from the input video signal. The decoding circuit decodes the first and second video signals in accordance with the extracted header and outputs decoded first and second video signals. The substitute image replacing circuit, responsive to the extracted header, outputs a substitute image in place of a frame of output from the decoding circuit at a location corresponding to the frame where the second coded video signal after the editing point has been subjected to an interframe compression.
