Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 27
Claim 1
Independent Claim 90 words
An adhesive tape for adhering to rough surfaces comprising: (a) a deformable backing; (b) an adhesive layer attached to a first surface of the backing in a manner to allow discontinuities of attachment between the backing and the adhesive layer so that under application pressure, the adhesive layer and backing deform to conform to a rough surface and, on removal of the pressure, the backing recovers to define a substantially flat and smooth surface; and (c) a release material on at least portions of the first surface of the backing.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 90 words
An adhesive tape for adhering to rough surfaces comprising: (a) a deformable backing; (b) an adhesive layer attached to a first surface of the backing in a manner to allow discontinuities of attachment between the backing and the adhesive layer so that under application pressure, the adhesive layer and backing deform to conform to a rough surface and, on removal of the pressure, the backing recovers to define a substantially flat and smooth surface; and (c) a release material on at least portions of the first surface of the backing.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 36 words
The tape of claim 1 further including an intermediate layer interposed between the adhesive layer and the first surface of the backing, wherein the intermediate layer is discontinuously attached to the first surface of the backing.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 14 words
The tape of claim 2 wherein the adhesive layer comprises a continuous adhesive layer.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 14 words
The tape of claim 2 wherein the adhesive layer comprises a discontinuous adhesive layer.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 31 words
The tape of claim 2 wherein the intermediate layer comprises a material that is deformable and has an internal recovery force that is less than the recovery force of the backing.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 12 words
The tape of claim 5 wherein the intermediate layer is tissue paper.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words
The tape of claim 2 wherein the intermediate layer tears when subjected to application pressure.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 18 words
The tape of claim 2 wherein the intermediate layer is thermomechanically bonded to the backing at selected locations.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 18 words
The tape of claim 2 wherein the intermediate layer is mechanically bonded to the backing at selected locations.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
The tape of claim 2 wherein the intermediate layer is adhesively bonded to the backing at selected locations.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 11 words
The tape of claim 1 wherein the release material comprises silicone.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 12 words
The tape of claim 11 wherein the adhesive forms a continuous layer.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 30 words
The tape of claim 1 wherein at least some of the attachment sites between the adhesive layer and the backing are indexed to the high points on the rough surface.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 30 words
The tape of claim 1 wherein at least some of the attachment sites between the adhesive layer and the backing are indexed to the high points on the rough surface.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 16 words
The tape of claim 1 wherein a second surface of the backing comprises a wall decoration.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 11 words
The tape of claim 15 wherein the tape is wall paper.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 93 words
An adhesive tape for adhering to rough surfaces comprising: (a) a deformable backing; (b) an adhesive layer attached to a first surface of the backing in a manner to allow discontinuities of attachment between the backing and the adhesive layer so that under application pressure, the adhesive layer and backing deform to conform to a rough surface and, on removal of the pressure, the backing recovers to define a substantially flat and smooth surface; and (c) a layer of particulate material interposed between the adhesive layer and the first surface of the backing.
Claim 19
Dependent Claim 93 words
An adhesive tape for adhering to rough surfaces comprising: (a) a deformable backing; (b) an adhesive layer attached to a first surface of the backing in a manner to allow discontinuities of attachment between the backing and the adhesive layer so that under application pressure, the adhesive layer and backing deform to conform to a rough surface and, on removal of the pressure, the backing recovers to define a substantially flat and smooth surface; and (c) a layer of particulate material interposed between the adhesive layer and the first surface of the backing.
Claim 20
