Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 85 words
A method of marking a product and subsequently detecting the marker in the product as a means of identifying the product comprising the steps of: associating a hapten as a marker with the product, wherein the hapten is non-deleterious to the product, inert with respect to the product, and not already associated with the product; and detecting the hapten in the product at a later point in time as a means of identifying the product by specifically binding the hapten to a complementary binding member.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 85 words
A method of marking a product and subsequently detecting the marker in the product as a means of identifying the product comprising the steps of: associating a hapten as a marker with the product, wherein the hapten is non-deleterious to the product, inert with respect to the product, and not already associated with the product; and detecting the hapten in the product at a later point in time as a means of identifying the product by specifically binding the hapten to a complementary binding member.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
The method of claim 1 in which said hapten marker is added directly to said product.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 15 words
The method of claim 2 in which said hapten marker is mixed with said product.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 12 words
The method of claim 3 in which said product is a liquid.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 13 words
The method of claim 4 in which said product is a petroleum product.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method of claim 2 in which said product is a solid and said hapten is applied to the surface of the product.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method of claim 1 in which said hapten marker is added or attached to a tag or packaging associated with said product.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 13 words
The method of claim 1 in which said hapten marker is m-phenoxybenzoic acid.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 16 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said complementary binding member is an antibody to said hapten.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 24 words
A marked product comprising: (a) a commercial petroleum product having mixed with it (b) a hapten marker not normally associated with said petroleum product.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 24 words
A marked product comprising: (a) a commercial petroleum product having mixed with it (b) a hapten marker not normally associated with said petroleum product.
