Abstract

Abstract A backup flight control system for controlling the flightpath of a multi-engine airplane using the main drive engines. The backup flight control system comprises an input device for generating a control command indicative of a desired flightpath, a feedback sensor for generating a feedback signal indicative of at least one of pitch rate, pitch attitude, roll rate and roll attitude, and a control device for changing the output power of at least one of the main drive engines on each side of the airplane in response to the control command and the feedback signal.

Claim 4
Dependent Claim 56 words
A backup flight control system according to claim 1, wherein the flight path input means comprises a control stick, a pitch axis thumbwheel, an instrument landing system receiver, all operatively connected to said control means through amplifiers having predetermined gains, and switch means for selectively switching between said control stick, instrument landing system receiver and thumbwheel.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 42 words
A backup flight control system according to claim 3, wherein said control means includes means for producing a pitch control voltage signal having a positive polarity for initiating a positive pitch maneuver and a negative polarity for initiating a negative pitch maneuver.
Claim 6
