Claim 1
Independent Claim
122 words
A liquid crystal device comprising a pair of spaced substrates each having on a surface stripe electrodes disposed to intersect with those disposed on the other substrate, and a liquid crystal disposed between the substrates so as to be driven by a voltage applied through the stripe electrodes; wherein said stripe electrodes on at least one of the pair of substrates are formed through a lithographic step including dividing the stripe electrodes into at least two divisions at a line perpendicular to the extension of the stripe electrodes, and repeating a pattern exposure for each division of the stripe electrodes so as to dispose a joint between the divisions of the stripe electrodes at a part in alignment with a non-display part.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
29 words
A device according to claim 1, wherein said non-display part further includes a region of an opaque metal member disposed on and/or in a vicinity of a stripe electrode.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
22 words
A device according to claim 2, wherein said opaque metal member is disposed to reduce the electric resistance of the stripe electrode.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
16 words
A device according to claim 1, wherein said liquid crystal is a chiral smectic liquid crystal.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
123 words
A liquid crystal device comprising a pair of spaced substrates each having on a surface a stripe electrodes disposed to intersect with those disposed on the other substrate, and a liquid crystal disposed between the substrates so as to be driven by a voltage applied through the stripe electrodes; wherein said stripe electrodes on at least one of the pair of substrates are formed through a lithographic step including dividing the stripe electrodes into at least two divisions at a line parallel to the extension of the stripe electrodes, and repeating a pattern exposure for each division of the stripe electrodes so as to dispose a joint between the divisions of the stripe electrodes at a part in alignment with a non-display part.
