Abstract

Abstract Congestive heart failure is treated by administration of a selective inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase and an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor. Captopril, fosinopril sodium, enalapril maleate and lisinopril are the preferred angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and the mercapto compounds of the formula ##STR1## are the preferred selective inhibitors of neutral endopeptidase.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 75 words
A method of treating a mammalian specie suffering from congestive heart failure comprising administering an effective amount of a selective inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase of the formula ##STR6## wherein n is an integer from 1 to 9 and an effective amount of an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor selected from the group consisting of captopril, fosinopril sodium, enalapril maleate, and lisinopril, said inhibitors being administered concurrently or at an interval of up to about 4 hours.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 75 words
A method of treating a mammalian specie suffering from congestive heart failure comprising administering an effective amount of a selective inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase of the formula ##STR6## wherein n is an integer from 1 to 9 and an effective amount of an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor selected from the group consisting of captopril, fosinopril sodium, enalapril maleate, and lisinopril, said inhibitors being administered concurrently or at an interval of up to about 4 hours.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the selective inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase is ##STR7## and the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor is captopril.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the selective inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase and the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor are administered concurrently from a single dose form.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 25 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the selective inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase and the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor are administered concurrently from separate dosage forms.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 27 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the selective inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase and the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor are administered separately up to about 4 hours apart.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 60 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the selective inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase is administered at a dosage range of from about 0.03 to about 1000 mg. per kg. of body weight per day and the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor is administered at a dosage range of from about 0.001 to about 50 mg. per kg. of body weight per day.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 60 words
The method of claim 6 wherein the selective inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase is administered at a dosage range of from about 0.3 to about 300 mg. per kg. of body weight per day and the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor is administered at a dosage range of from about 0.1 to about 10 mg. per kg. of body weight per day.
