Liquid crystal composition

Claim 2

A liquid crystal composition which comprises, as main components, 15 to 80 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (I) ##STR73## and 25 to 65 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (II) ##STR74## wherein R 1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R 2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, l is an integer of 1 or 2, m is an integer of 0 or 1, but l+m=2, and A and B are independently ##STR75##

Claim 3

A liquid crystal composition according to claim 1 which comprises at least one compound represented by the following formula ##STR76##

Claim 4

A liquid crystal composition according to claim 1 which comprises 5 to 30% by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (IV) ##STR77## (wherein R 5 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms), and/or at least one compound represented by the formula (V) ##STR78## (wherein R 7 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms).

Claim 5

A liquid crystal element which contains the liquid crystal composition described in claim 1.

Claim 6

A liquid crystal element which contains the liquid crystal composition described in claim 3.

Claim 7

A liquid crystal composition which comprises 15 to 80 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (I) ##STR79## (wherein R 1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, l is an integer of 1 or 2, m is an integer of 0 or 1, but l+m=2, and A is ##STR80## not more than 65 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (II) ##STR81## (wherein R 2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and B is or ##STR82## and not more than 40 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (III) R.sub.3 --(C).sub.p --X--(D).sub.q --R.sub.4 (III) (wherein R 3 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms or an alkoxymethyl group having 2 to 10 carbon atoms, R 4 is an alkyl group or an alkoxy group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms or F, each of p and q is an ingeter of 1 or 2, but p+q≦3, each of C and D are independently ##STR83## and X is a single bond, --CH 2 CH 2 --, --COO-- or --C.tbd.C--), the total amount of the compounds having the formulae (I), (II) and (III) being not less than 60% by weight.

Claim 8

A liquid crystal composition which comprises 15 to 80 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (I) ##STR79## (wherein R 1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, l is an integer of 1 or 2, m is an integer of 0 or 1, but l+m=2, and A is ##STR80## not more than 65 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (II) ##STR81## (wherein R 2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and B is or ##STR82## and not more than 40 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (III) R.sub.3 --(C).sub.p --X--(D).sub.q --R.sub.4 (III) (wherein R 3 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms or an alkoxymethyl group having 2 to 10 carbon atoms, R 4 is an alkyl group or an alkoxy group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms or F, each of p and q is an ingeter of 1 or 2, but p+q≦3, each of C and D are independently ##STR83## and X is a single bond, --CH 2 CH 2 --, --COO-- or --C.tbd.C--), the total amount of the compounds having the formulae (I), (II) and (III) being not less than 60% by weight.

Claim 9

A liquid crystal composition according to claim 6 which comprises at least one compound represented by the following formula ##STR84##

Claim 10

A liquid crystal composition according to claim 6 which comprises 15 to 80 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (I) ##STR85## 25to 65 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (II) ##STR86## and 10 to 40 parts by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (III) R.sub.3 --(C).sub.p --X--(D).sub.q --R.sub.4 (III) the total amount of said compounds having said formulae (I), (II) and (III) being not less than 60% by weight.

Claim 11

A liquid crystal composition according to claim 8 which comprises at least one compound represented by the following formula ##STR87##

Claim 12

A liquid crystal composition according to claim 6, which comprises 5 to 30% by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (IV) ##STR88## wherein R 5 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and/or at least one compound represented by the formula (V) ##STR89## wherein R 7 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms.

Claim 13

A liquid crystal composition according to claim 8, which comprises 5 to 30% by weight of at least one compound represented by the formula (IV) ##STR90## wherein R 5 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and/or at least ;one compound represented by the formula (V) ##STR91## wherein R 7 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms.

Claim 14

A liquid crystal element which contains the liquid crystal composition described in claim 6.

Claim 15

A liquid crystal element which contains the liquid crystal composition described in claim 8.

Claim 16

A liquid crystal element which contains the liquid crystal composition described in claim 10.

Claim 17

A liquid crystal element which contains the liquid crystal composition described in claim 11.
