Abstract
Abstract Dioxolanes, thio analogs thereof, and derivatives of these and methods of preparation are described. These materials are useful as additives in lubricants and fuels. Methods for reducing fuel consumption in internal combustion engines employing the lubricating compositions are described.

A lubricating oil composition comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount of an oil soluble or dispersible compound of the formula: ##STR19## wherein each X is independently oxygen or sulfur, at least one of the substituents R 1 -R 6 is a member of the group consisting of ##STR20## wherein R 7 is hydrocarbyl, each R 8 is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, R 9 is an alkylene group having from 2 to about 16 carbons, and n is an integer from 1 to about 30, and the remaining substituents R 1 -R 6 are independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl.
