Abstract

Abstract Novel articles are provided comprising at least one polymerized surfactant layer and at least one protein layer specifically bound to the surfacant layer. Depending upon the nature of the preparation of the layers, the layers may be formed as a plurality of substantially parallel layers, filaments, tubes, helices or other complex assembly. The articles may be used for improved determination of protein structure, electronic devices, enzyme reactors and in biosensors. Improved methods are provided for electron microscopic analysis of proteins.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 86 words
An electronic device comprising a semi-conductor substrate and an article comprising at least one polymerized ordered surfactant layer, wherein said polymerized surfactant layer is obtained by polymerization of a triple bond functionality present in the surfactant, wherein said triple bond functionality is separated from the termini of the surfactant by at least 1 carbon atom, and an ordered protein layer providing optical diffraction patterns specifically bound to said surfactant layer, wherein said article is in juxtaposition to at least a portion of said semi-conductor substrate surface.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 86 words
An electronic device comprising a semi-conductor substrate and an article comprising at least one polymerized ordered surfactant layer, wherein said polymerized surfactant layer is obtained by polymerization of a triple bond functionality present in the surfactant, wherein said triple bond functionality is separated from the termini of the surfactant by at least 1 carbon atom, and an ordered protein layer providing optical diffraction patterns specifically bound to said surfactant layer, wherein said article is in juxtaposition to at least a portion of said semi-conductor substrate surface.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
An electronic device according to claim 1, including a metal layer positioned on the opposite side of said article from said semiconductor substrate.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 14 words
An electronic device according to claim 2, wherein said device is a MIS device.
