Abstract

Abstract There is disclosed an image forming apparatus comprising a semiconductor laser diode for emitting a laser light onto a photoconductor so as to form an electrostatic latent image thereon. The electrostatic latent image is developed using toner so as to form a visible toner image on the photoconductor, and there is set a predetermined bias voltage to be supplied to the laser diode. The set bias voltage is applied to the laser diode, and also a driving voltage is applied thereto responsive to image data. When no image data are inputted, the predetermined bias voltage is applied to the laser diode, and a density of a toner image formed on the photoconductor is detected. A controller sets a bias voltage to be applied to the laser diode responsive to the detected density of the toner image.
