Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 102 words
In a method for the preservation of blood platelets wherein the platelets are frozen in a concentrated state in the presence of a sufficient quantity of prostacyclin for the substantially complete inhibition of platelet function and subsequently thawed in the presence of prostacyclin and at a pH below about 8, the improved step comprising the substantially continuous addition to said thawed concentrate of a sufficient quantity of a diluent to reduce the concentration of the platelets to that quantity acceptable for infusion, and thereafter incubating said diluted platelets at about 37° C. to permit said platelets to substantially recover their pre-freezing morphology.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 102 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said diluted platelets are incubated for a time period equal to about the half life of prostacyclin.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 14 words
The method of claim 2 wherein said platelets are incubated for about 15 minutes.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said incubation temperature is maintained between about 36.5° C. and about 37.5° C.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 21 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said substantially continuous addition of diluent continues over a time period of about 5 minutes.
