Abstract Alkyl and alkenyl aryl ether derivatives corresponding to the formula: ##STR1## in which R 1 is a saturated cycloaliphatic C 6 -C 20 alkyl group or a mono- or polyunsaturated, linear, branched or cycloaliphatic C 6 -C 20 alkyl group and R 2 is a C 1 -C 4 hydroxyalkyl group, a C 3 or C 4 hydroxyalkenyl group, a group --COOR 3 , --CH 2 --COOR 3 , --CH 2 --CH 2 --COOR 3 or --CH═CH--COOR 3 , are suitable as sebosuppressive agents in cosmetic or pharmaceutical preparations for topical application to the hair and to the skin.
