Abstract

Abstract Microcapsules having hard, thick walls are formed by dispersing an oily solution containing a crosslinking agent in an aqueous solution, and forming a polysalt in the aqueous solution, the polysalt including a high molecular weight polyanion and a low molecular weight polycationic polyamine having a functionality of at least three. The polyanion is preferably casein. The microcapsules may be used in a CB ink for preparing carbonless copy paper.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 75 words
A process for the production of microcapsules containing an oily solution, comprising: dispersing an oily solution including a crosslinking agent into an aqueous solution; forming a polysalt in said aqueous solution, said polysalt including a high molecular weight polyanion and a polycationic polyamine having a molecular weight of less than 1200 and having a functionality of at least three, whereby a hard, thick layer is formed around droplets of oily solution and microcapsules are produced.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 75 words
A process for the production of microcapsules containing an oily solution, comprising: dispersing an oily solution including a crosslinking agent into an aqueous solution; forming a polysalt in said aqueous solution, said polysalt including a high molecular weight polyanion and a polycationic polyamine having a molecular weight of less than 1200 and having a functionality of at least three, whereby a hard, thick layer is formed around droplets of oily solution and microcapsules are produced.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process of claim 1, wherein said oily solution contains a dye precursor.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
The process of claim 1, wherein the crosslinking agent is selected from the group consisting of polyisocyanates, polyacid chlorides, polyanhydrides, polyepoxides, polychloroformates, and polyaldehydes.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 33 words
The process of claim 1, wherein said polyanion is selcted from the group consisting of casein, sodium caseinate, zein, soya protein, polyacrylic acids, acrylic acid copolymers, maleic acid copolymers, and maleic anhydride copolymers.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 10 words
The process of claim 1, wherein said polyanion is casein.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 12 words
The process of claim 5, wherein said polycationic polyamine is diethylene triamine.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 12 words
The process of claim 6, wherein said crosslinking agent is a polyisocyanate.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 17 words
A process in accordance with claim 1, wherein said polysalt is formed prior to said dispersing step.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 16 words
A process in accordance with claim 1, wherein said polysalt is formed after said dispersing step.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 9 words
The product produced by the process of claim 1.
