Abstract
Abstract This invention relates to a new class of compounds having important biochemical and pharmacological properties. More particularly, this invention relates to N-aralkyl piperidinemethanol derivatives which are potent and selective inhibitors of the binding of serotonin at the 5HT 2 receptor site, and to the processes for their preparation and use.

A method for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias comprising administering to a patient in need thereof, by an enteral or a parenteral route of administration, an antiarrhythmic amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR3## the optical isomers thereof, and the pharamaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein n is 2, 3, or 4, each of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , and R 4 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, trifluoromethyl, C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-6 alkoxy, hydroxy and amino.
