Abstract
Abstract A rotating member produces a signal corresponding to a given value M of angular rotation thereof. A clock produces pulses at a given rate. A counter mechanism is responsive to the signal and to the clock pulses for generating a number related to the number of clock pulses produced during a unit value X of rotation of the rotating member where X is unequal to M. The number may be used to determine when a value N of angular rotation has occurred.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim
156 words
A system for determining time to produce an ignition spark in an internal combustion spark-fired engine having a rotating part comprising in combination: means producing signals marking the beginning and the end of a fixed number M of degrees of rotation of said engine part; means producing clock pulses at a fixed rate; means responsive to said clock pulses and to said beginning and end signals for generating a number related to the number of clock pulses produced during a value X in degrees of engine part rotation, where X is unequal to M; means responsive to said generated number for producing a value related to the number of degrees N of engine part rotation after said end, at which it is desired to produce said ignition spark, and means responsive to said generated number, to said clock pulses and to said value for determining when said engine part has rotated N degrees past said end.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
46 words
The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said means responsive to said clock pulses comprises means for producing a unit pulse for each M clock pulses it receives and means responsive to said unit pulses for counting the number of unit pulses received thereat.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
35 words
The combination as set forth in claim 2 further including down counter means responsive to said means for counting the number of unit pulses received thereat at a rate determined by said clock pulse rate.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
89 words
The combination as set forth in claim 3 further including means coupled to said means for producing said unit pulses for latching a value stored therein when said means producing signals produces said end signal and means for accumulating said latched value at a rate which is a function of the rate at which said down counter counts zeros and means for producing a carry sum when the accumulator value is equal to or greater than the value M, said carry values being used to lengthen the value N.
