Abstract
Abstract An ion exchange membrane electrolytic cell comprises an anode, a cathode, an anode compartment and a cathode compartment partitioned by an ion exchange membrane; an improvement characterized in that a gas and liquid permeable porous non-electrode layer is bonded to at least one of surfaces of said ion exchange membrane and said porous non-electrode layer is formed by coating electric non-conductive or conductive particles on the surface of a support to form a thin layer, transferring said thin layer onto the surface of said membrane and bonding said thin layer to said membrane by the application of heat and pressure.
