Claim 1
Independent Claim
96 words
A range control circuit for a counter counting regularly occurring pulses comprising: counting means containing a plurality of stages being responsive to a source of regularly occurring pulses; memory means containing a counter state and information indicative of a range change; and external programming means responsive to information in said memory means indicative of a range change to enable predetermined stages of said counter, thereby changing its range and allowing said counter to reach a state that is outside of the range of the maximum value storable in said memory means for presetting said counting means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
27 words
The range control circuit of claim 1 wherein said counting means is a binary counter and said memory means contains a binary representation of the counter state.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
32 words
The range control circuit of claim 2 wherein said memory means further contains in a single bit position, normally not used for a counter state, the information indicative of a range change.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
25 words
The range control circuit of claim 3 further including latching means responsive to the memory means for storing the information indicative of a range change.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
50 words
The range control circuit of claim 4 wherein said counter comprises a synchronous binary up counter with a plurality of stages said counter further including comparators coupled between said counter stages and said memory means for determining correspondence between the counter state and the information contained in the memory means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
26 words
The range control circuit of claim 5 wherein said external programming means enables stages of said binary counter through the corresponding comparator means for those stages.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
47 words
The range control circuit of claim 6 wherein said memory means includes a multiplexing circuit for accessing a multiple address source of information and said range control circuit responds to one of said multiplexer pulses for determining the presence of information indicative of a range control signal.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
128 words
A range control circuit for a counter counting regularly occuring pulses, comprising: an N stage counter responsive to a source of regularly occuring pulses, said counter requiring N bits of information to determine its state; a memory coupled to said counter for supplying said counter with less than the N bits of information indicative of a counter state, at least one of said bits supplied by said memory including information indicative of a range change; and range control means, coupled to said counter and said memory, responsive to said information indicative of a range change and to said less than N bits of information, for supplying said counter with any of the N bits of information required to determine its state which are not supplied by said memory.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
