Abstract
Abstract Certain secondary and tertiary para-nitrophenylalkylamines are potent antiarrhythmic agents which prolong the action potential duration of cardiac tissue. A method of treating re-entrant arrhythmias, and pharmaceutical formulations containing paranitrophenylalkylamines, are provided.

A method of treating arrhythmia comprising administering to a patient in need of said treatment a therapeutic or prophylactic antiarrhythmic amount of a compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein: n is 2-5; R 1 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 2 alkyl; R 2 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 3 alkyl; R 3 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 8 alkyl; R 4 is C 1 -C 10 alkyl; provided that when R 3 is hydrogen, R 4 is C 5 -C 7 alkyl, or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof.
