Abstract

Abstract An improved composite substrate comprises a patterned surface conductive layer of a refractory metal and a patterned compensation electrically conductive layer. The patterned compensation layer entirely overlies and extends beyond the shrunken patterned conductive layer. Additionally, thick film elements such as resistors are fabricated and contact selected areas of the patterned compensation conductive layer.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 129 words
An improved thick film composite substrate of the type having a plurality of patterned conductive layers interleaved with a plurality of electrically insulating ceramic layers and having a patterned electrically conductive layer of a refractory material on an exposed surface thereof, said original patterned conductive layer of refractory material having been shrunk during fabrication of said substrate and being substantially incapable of being functionally interconnected with means of fixed spacing, said improved substrate comprising: a patterned electrically conductive compensation layer generally following said original patterned conductive layer of refractory material entirely covering and extending beyond said shrunken patterned refractory material by an amount about equal to the degree of shrinkage of said original pattern whereby said patterned conductive compensation layer is functionally interconnectable with said means of fixed spacing.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 129 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
A thick film composite substrate as claimed in claim 1 wherein said patterned shrunken conductive layer and said pattern conductive compensating layer have device connection areas.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 31 words
A thick film composite substrate as claimed in claim 2, further comprising: at least one thick film element extending between said device contact areas of said patterned conductive compensating layer pattern.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 18 words
A thick film composite substrate as claimed in claim 3 wherein said thick film element is a resistor.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 20 words
A thick film composite substrate as claimed in claim 1 wherein said pattern conductive compensating layer is a non-refractory metal.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 22 words
A thick film composite substrate as claimed in claim 5 wherein said refractory metal is tungsten and said non-refractory metal is copper.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 56 words
A thick film composite substrate as claimed in claim 1 wherein said shrunken pattern conductive layer comprises a plurality of first contact areas, said areas terminating a preselected distance from an edge of said substrate; and said patterned compensation conductive layer includes a plurality of second contact areas which extend to said edge of said substrate.
