Abstract
Abstract In a method of manufacturing a semiconductor/glass composite material, a glass substrate is covered partially by a covering layer, a semiconductor is connected by pressure and heat to the surface of the substrate not covered by the covering layer, and the semiconductor is then etched away by means of etch polishing to the thickness of the covering layer. The covering may be silicon dioxide, and may be applied to substrate by sputtering or by deposition from the gas phase. The etching solution is NH 4 OH and H 2 O 2 in the ratio 700 to 1. The composite material may be used as a photocathode in an image converter or image intensifier tube.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim
92 words
A method of manufacturing a semiconductor/glass composite material, in which at least one semiconductor layer is permanently connected to a plate-shaped glass substrate comprising the steps of covering the glass substrate at least partially by a second layer on its surface facing the semiconductor; bringing the semiconductor and the glass substrate into contact in the surface areas not provided with the second layer; connecting them by means of the action of pressure and heat; and etching away the semi-conductor layer to the thickness of the second layer by means of etch polishing.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
92 words
A method of manufacturing a semiconductor/glass composite material, in which at least one semiconductor layer is permanently connected to a plate-shaped glass substrate comprising the steps of covering the glass substrate at least partially by a second layer on its surface facing the semiconductor; bringing the semiconductor and the glass substrate into contact in the surface areas not provided with the second layer; connecting them by means of the action of pressure and heat; and etching away the semi-conductor layer to the thickness of the second layer by means of etch polishing.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
15 words
A method according to claim 1, wherein the second layer is manufactured from silicon dioxide.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
48 words
A method according to claim 1, wherein the second layer is applied to the surface of the glass substrate by means of sputtering while the surface region of the surface of the glass substrate which is provided for the connection to the semiconductor is covered by a mask.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
75 words
A method according to claim 1, wherein the second layer is produced by deposition from the gas phase so that the surface of the glass substrate is initially covered over its entire surface by the end second layer and the parts of the surface of the glass substrate which are provided for the connection process to the semiconductor are subsequently exposed by means of an etching process which eliminates the second layer at those points.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
51 words
A method according to claim 1, wherein an etching solution is used to etch away the semiconductor layer to the same thickness as the second layer, the said etching solution containing a mixture of NH 4 OH and H 2 O 2 in a ratio of 1 milliliter to 700 milliliters.
