Abstract
Abstract Novel salts of 1,3-bis-(β-ethylhexyl)-5-amino-5-methyl-hexahydropyrimidine (hexetidine) with substituted benzoic acids and processes of preparing these salts are described. These novel salts have useful bacteriostatic activity and show stability in storage. The invention accordingly comprises compositions containing the novel salts and having bacteriostatic activity.

The method of treating the mouth cavity for inhibiting the growth of microorganisms therein which comprises applying thereto an effective amount of a composition containing at least one salt of 1,3-bis-(β-ethylhexyl)-5-amino-5-methyl-hexahydropyrimidine of the general formula ##STR4## with an aromatic carboxylic acid of the general formula ##STR5## wherein X is a member selected from the group consisting of --COOH, --OH, --NH 2 , --SO 3 H and --SO 2 NH 2 , as active ingredient together with at least one member selected from the group consisting of conventional diluents and carrier materials.
