Abstract

Abstract A turbine flowmeter with an unusual radio frequency pick-up and non-magnetic, conductive turbine blades. The pickup includes a coil which is also a part of a tank circuit of an input oscillator. A phase lock loop is then employed which receives, as an input, the output of the input oscillator. When a turbine blade passes the pick-up, the input oscillator undergoes a frequency shift. Circuits connected from the phase lock loop output then produce pulses which are counted and indicated. The circuits may be constructed to cause an indicator to read in units of volume, i.e. the total volume flow through the flowmeter, if desired. The said circuits include two active filters, a Schmitt trigger, a current converter and an output circuit from the phase lock loop output.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 159 words
A turbine flowmeter comprising: a non-magnetic conduit; a rotor having non-magnetic conductive blades; mounting means fixed in said conduit holding said rotor in a position rotatable in response to a flow of fluid in said conduit; an input oscillator including a tank circuit having a coil and an output, said coil being fixed relative to said conduit outside thereof and having an axis extending generally normal to the length of said conduit in a position such that all of said blades pass one end of said coil when said rotor is turned one revolution; a phase lock loop having an input and an output, the output of said input oscillator being connected to the input of said phase lock loop, said phase lock loop producing a time varying signal at its output when a blade passes said coil; and output means connected from said phase lock loop output for producing a pulse each time a blade passes said coil.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 159 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 20 words
The invention as defined in claim 1, including a pulse counter connected from said output means to count said pulses.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 18 words
The invention as defined in claim 2, including register means to indicate the count stored in said counter.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 37 words
The invention as defined in claim 3, wherein said output means, said pulse counter and said register means are constructed to cause said register means to indicate the total flow through said conduit in units of volume.
