Abstract
Abstract A metal phosphate coating is applied to a glass article. A liquid composition containing at least in part an organic component and a metal compound having a metal with an atomic number of 12, 14, 20-32, 39-50, 56-80, 90 or 92 and an oxyacid of phosphorus is applied to the glass article. The liquid composition is converted to the metal phosphate coating, i.e., by air drying and/or heating, to give a coating of 0.01 to 5 microns thickness and being transparent to visible light but ultra-violet absorbing.
