Claim 1
Independent Claim 36 words
AN ORGANIC, POLYMERIC SHAPED ARTICLE HAVING A SUBSTANTIALLY CONTINUOUS, GAS-IMPERMEABLE CATING ON AT LEAST ONE SURFACE THEREOF, THE COATING COMPRISING FERRIC ORTHOPHOSPHATE WHEREIN THE ATOM RATIO OF IRON TO PHOSPHORUS IS ABOUT FROM 2.3 TO 0.5.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 36 words
AN ORGANIC, POLYMERIC SHAPED ARTICLE HAVING A SUBSTANTIALLY CONTINUOUS, GAS-IMPERMEABLE CATING ON AT LEAST ONE SURFACE THEREOF, THE COATING COMPRISING FERRIC ORTHOPHOSPHATE WHEREIN THE ATOM RATIO OF IRON TO PHOSPHORUS IS ABOUT FROM 2.3 TO 0.5.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 27 words
An article of claim 1 wherein the coating consists essentially of ferric orthophosphate and the atom ratio of iron to phosphorus is about from 1.2 to 0.6.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 27 words
An article of claim 1 wherein the coating consists essentially of ferric orthophosphate and the atom ratio of iron to phosphorus is about from 0.95 to 0.65.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 12 words
An article of claim 1 wherein the shaped article is a film.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 12 words
An article of claim 4 wherein the film is of polyethylene terephthalate.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 27 words
An article of claim 1 wherein at least one surface of the polymeric shaped article is flame treated prior to the application of the ferric orthophosphate coating.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 29 words
An article of claim 1 wherein at least one surface of the polymeric shaped article is treated by electrical discharge prior to the application of the ferric orthophosphate coating.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 24 words
An article of claim 1 wherein the coating further comprises up to about 30%, by weight of the ferric orthophosphate, of adhesion promoting additive.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 23 words
An article of claim 8 wherein the adhesion promoting additive is selected from melamine formaldehyde resins, urea formaldehyde resins, polyethylenimine, glycine and alanine.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
An article of claim 4 further comprising a sealable topcoat on at least one surface of the film.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 17 words
An article of claim 10 wherein the sealable surface topcoat is applied to the ferric orthophosphate surface.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 75 words
A biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate film having been treated with electrical discharge to promote adhesion, having a substantially continuous, gas-impermeable coating on at least one surface thereof comprising ferric orthophosphate in which the ratio of iron to phosphorus is about from 1.2 to 0.6, the coating further comprising about from 5 to 20% by weight of adhesion promoting additive, the film further comprising a polyvinylidene chloride topcoat on the surface of the ferric orthophosphate coating.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 75 words
A biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate film having been treated with electrical discharge to promote adhesion, having a substantially continuous, gas-impermeable coating on at least one surface thereof comprising ferric orthophosphate in which the ratio of iron to phosphorus is about from 1.2 to 0.6, the coating further comprising about from 5 to 20% by weight of adhesion promoting additive, the film further comprising a polyvinylidene chloride topcoat on the surface of the ferric orthophosphate coating.
