Abstract

Abstract A protective coating is applied to a eutectic or near-eutectic alloy which contains at least one continuously multi-ply connected crystalline phase and at least one other phase which may be continuous or non-continuous, by removing from the surface of said alloy, one or more of the phases, such that at least one continuous phase will remain unaffected, so as to roughen said alloy surface, and thereafter coating said surface with a protective coating.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 63 words
A method of applying a protective coating to a eutectic or near eutectic alloy which contains a continuously multi-ply connected crystalline phase, and at least one other non-continuous phase, which comprises completely removing from the surface of said alloy, one or more of said non-continuous phases such that a roughened alloy surface, having the continuous phase remain and thereafter coating said roughened surface.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 63 words
A method of applying a protective coating to a eutectic or near eutectic alloy which contains a continuously multi-ply connected crystalline phase, and at least one other non-continuous phase, which comprises completely removing from the surface of said alloy, one or more of said non-continuous phases such that a roughened alloy surface, having the continuous phase remain and thereafter coating said roughened surface.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the alloy contains 50 - 70% cobalt, 30 - 50% chromium, and 2 - 4% carbon.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
A method according to claim 1, characterized in that the protective coating consists of an alloy containing predominantly silicon or chromium.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 18 words
A method according to claim 1, characterized in that the protective coating is applied by chemical vapor deposition.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 16 words
The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the protective coating is applied by electrodeposition.
