Cementless acetabular cup for total hip prosthesis
Abstract
Abstract This cup is of the type consisting of three spherical shells (2, 3, 4), namely: - an outer shell (2) made of a rigid material, the outer face thereof being provided with radial projections (11) intended to permit its implantation in the acetabular cavity, - an inner shell (3) made of a hard, biocompatible material with a low coefficient of friction, - and an intermediate spherical shell (4) made of a semi-rigid material; and in the outer shell (2) of the cup, radially movable tongues (5) are cut out in the shape of portions of spherical shell sections and defined by slots (5) in the shape of arcs of a circle. The slots (5) in the shape of arcs of a circle extend between two circles parallel to the plane of the opening (2b) of this shell, one of which is situated in the proximity of this plane, and the other of which is situated near the apex (2c) of the shell, the ends of these slots (5) situated near the apex (2c) of the shell (2) moreover being connected in pairs by partially annular slots (7) coinciding with that of the abovementioned circles situated near the apex (2c) of the shell (2). For positioning the outer shell (2), an apparatus has been designed which comprises levers (28) with hooks (31, 32) which are intended to be engaged in notches (33) and holes (34) in the tongues (5, 21). <IMAGE>
