Abstract
Abstract Tumor cells sub- or non-responding to the antiproliferative effects of lymphokines, notably the interferons and the interleukins, and rendered lymphokine-responsive by exposing the tumor cells to exogenous mismatched dsRNAs. These dsRNAs themselves modulate cell growth of susceptible tumors towards normalization and loss of cancerous cell phenotype.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
25 words
The use of a mismatched dsRNA for the manufacture of a medicament for modulating tumour cell growth towards normalisation and loss of malignant cell phenotype.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
25 words
The use of a mismatched dsRNA for the manufacture of a medicament for modulating tumour cell growth towards normalisation and loss of malignant cell phenotype.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
38 words
The use of a mismatched dsRNA according to claim 1 wherein the dsRNA is capable of rendering dsRNA-deficient cells which are non-responsive or sub-responsive to lymphokine modulation, as evidenced by anti tumour growth activity, responsive to lymphokine modulation.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
31 words
The use of a mismatched dsRNA according to claim 1 or 2 wherein the dsRNA has the same three-dimensional structure as dsRNA in respect of which the tumour cells are deficient.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
54 words
The use of a 2′,5′ A synthetase-activating mismatched dsRNA for the manufacture of a medicament for improving the antigrowth activity of an interferon in non-responding or sub-responding tumour cells capable of inducing the synthesis in a tumour cell mass of a dsRNA which participates in tumour cell growth regulation in association with an interferon.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
54 words
The use of a 2′,5′ A synthetase-activating mismatched dsRNA for the manufacture of a medicament for improving the antigrowth activity of an interferon in non-responding or sub-responding tumour cells capable of inducing the synthesis in a tumour cell mass of a dsRNA which participates in tumour cell growth regulation in association with an interferon.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
45 words
The use of a mismatched dsRNA according to any one of the preceding claims in which the dsRNA is constructed from oligomer complexes, polymer complexes or both, and preferably is composed of oligonucleotides hybridized with complementary single stranded polymeric RNA to form the dsRNA duplex.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
37 words
The use of a mismatched dsRNA according to any one of the preceding claims in which the dsRNA contains regions of bond breakage and exhibits the therapeutic ratio properties of r I n.r(C₁₁₋₁₄, U ) n .
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
24 words
The use of a mismatched dsRNA according to any one of claims 2 to 6 wherein the lymphokine is an interleukin or an interferon.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
33 words
The use of a mismatched dsRNA according to any one of the prceding claims wherein the tumour cells are kidney tumour cells, malignant melanoma cells, chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells or lung tumour cells.
