Abstract

Abstract An oximeter designed to measure non-invasively oxygen saturation in blood contained in a part of a living body includes an optical sensor head (10). The optical sensor head (10) has a light-emitting section (7) for emitting measuring light beams having at least two different wavelengths and a light-receiving section (8) for receiving the measuring light beams scattered by and reflected from the measuring part of the living body, and a heating means (2) whose heating temperature is controllable is provided around the light-emitting (7) and light-receiving (8) sections. The arrangement enables measurement of oxygen saturation in any part of a living body in which blood vessels are distributed close to the body surface, such as finger tips, ears and the flat part of a newborn's foot.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 92 words
A sensor head for an oximeter for non-invasively measuring the oxygen saturation of blood contained in part of a living body, the sensor comprising: an optical sensor (6) having a light-emitting section (7) for emitting measuring light beams having at least two different wavelengths and a light-receiving section (8) for receiving measuring light beams scattered by and reflected from the living body being measured; and, heating means (2, 3) provided around the light-emitting (7) and light-receiving (8) sections, the heating means (2, 3) being arranged so that the heating temperature is controllable.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 92 words
A sensor head for an oximeter for non-invasively measuring the oxygen saturation of blood contained in part of a living body, the sensor comprising: an optical sensor (6) having a light-emitting section (7) for emitting measuring light beams having at least two different wavelengths and a light-receiving section (8) for receiving measuring light beams scattered by and reflected from the living body being measured; and, heating means (2, 3) provided around the light-emitting (7) and light-receiving (8) sections, the heating means (2, 3) being arranged so that the heating temperature is controllable.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
An oximeter sensor according to claim 1, wherein the heating means comprises a heating body (2) and a heater (3) for heating the body (2).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 17 words
An oximeter sensor according to claim 2, wherein the heating body (2) surrounds the optical sensor (6).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
An oximeter sensor according to claim 2 or 3, wherein the heating body (2) also includes temperature measuring means (5) for measuring the temperature of the heating body (2).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 16 words
An oximeter sensor according to claim 4, wherein the temperature measuring means (5) is a thermistor.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 21 words
An oximeter according to any one of claims 2 to 5, wherein the heater (3) is a nichrome wire heating element.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 32 words
An oximeter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the light-emitting section (7) comprises two light-emitting elements which emit measuring light beams having wavelengths that are different from each other.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 35 words
An oximeter according to any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the light-emitting section (7) comprises three or more light-emitting elements which emit measuring light beams having wavelengths that are different from each other.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 30 words
An oximeter according to any one of claims 2 to 6, wherein the heating body (2) includes double-sided adhesive tape to enable it to be stuck to a living body.
Claim 11
