Abstract

Abstract An underfloor heating/cooling system is provided having panels (4) with a low thermal capacity per unit area which enable the heating system to respond rapidly to temperature change. In one embodiment, each panel (4) comprises an upper layer (30) made of a fibre-reinforced thermosetting compound throughout which is dispersed a substance, such as sand, for improving the thermal conductivity of the layer (30). Beneath this upper layer (30) is a heat exchange layer (32, 34) similar to the upper layer (30) but embedded within which are pipes (33) for passing warm water through the panel. The heat-exchange layer (32, 34) is backed by an insulating layer (35). The panels are also suitable for use as wall heating/cooling panels and solar collecting panels.
