Abstract

Abstract Known agents for treating peptic ulcers are either not sufficiently effective or possess undesirable side effects. These problems can be overcome by 2-(substituted-phenyl)-thiazoles having the formula (I): wherein R 1 represents an alkyl group of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 3 carbon atoms and n denotes an integer of 1 to 3, with the proviso that when R 2 represents a hyrogen atom the 3, 4-and 5-positions of the benzene ring are not simultaneously occupied by methoxy groups. These compounds can be formulated into pharmaceutical compositions for treating peptic ulcers.
