Abstract A TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER ARE DISCLOSED FOR A TELETYPEWRITER. THE FREQUENCY-SHIFT RECEIVER RESPONDS TO MARKFREQUENCY SIGNALS ABOVE A PREDETERMINED THRESHOLD TO REDUCE THE GAIN OF THE RECEIVER DURING MARK INTERVALS, SO THAT THE RECEIVER WILL NOT RESPOND TO SPURIOUS SPACE-FREQUENCY SIGNALS, E.G., ECHOES. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY A LIMITER AMPLIFIER IN CONJUNCTION WITH A FILTER TURNED TO THE SPACE-FREQUENCY.
