Abstract A PROCESS FOR REDUCING THE VISCOSITY OF A STREAM OF VISCOUS FLUID FLOWING WITHIN A PIPELINE HAVING CONSTITUENTS WHICH SOLIDIFY UPON COOLING. A PORTION OF THE STREAM IS DIVERTED AND HEATED TO A TEMPERATURE AT WHICH THERMAL DEGRADATION OF AT LEAST SOME OF THE CONSTITUENTS THEREOF TAKES PLACE THUS LOWERING ITS AVERAGE MOLECULAR WEIGHT AND VISCOSITY. THE HEATED PORTION IS THEN BLENDED WITH THE REMAINDER OF THE STREAM THERBY INCREASING THE TEMPERATURE OF THE ENTIRE STREAM FLOWING WITHIN THE PIPELINE.
