Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 87 words
A method for reducing heart wall stress in a heart chamber, comprising the steps of: providing a passive device having a first heart engaging surface, a second heart engaging surface, and a member interconnecting the surfaces; and placing the first and second surfaces on the wall of the chamber to deflect the heart wall proximate at least one of the heart engaging surfaces, while the interconnecting member is disposed externally of the heart, wherein the first and second heart engaging surfaces are configured to promote tissue ingrowth.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 87 words
A method for reducing heart wall stress in a heart chamber, comprising the steps of: providing a passive device having a first heart engaging surface, a second heart engaging surface, and a member interconnecting the surfaces; and placing the first and second surfaces on the wall of the chamber to deflect the heart wall proximate at least one of the heart engaging surfaces, while the interconnecting member is disposed externally of the heart, wherein the first and second heart engaging surfaces are configured to promote tissue ingrowth.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 17 words
The method in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the deflection appears concave from outside the chamber.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 22 words
The method in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the deflection results in an inflection point along the wall of the heart.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 17 words
The method in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the first heart engaging surface includes a balloon.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 18 words
The method in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the first heart engaging surface includes an elongate pad.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method in accordance with claim 1 , further comprising the step of attaching the device to a bone.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 18 words
The method in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the first and second heart engaging surfaces are porous.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method in accordance with claim 1 , further comprising the step of adjusting the distance between the surfaces.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 13 words
The method in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the member is malleable.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
The method in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the member is cast in place on the heart.
