Abstract

Abstract A method of facilitating hypertext navigation within a collection of linked files includes gathering a set of linked files for inclusion within the collection and identifying a map of links among the files. The map is then analyzed to determine groupings among the files based on relevance. Additional hypertext links are then created that link to files within the at least one group. The additional hypertext links are then stored in one of the files in the collection a new file that is added to the collection.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 109 words
A method of automatically adding organizational information to a collection of linked files comprising the steps of: gathering a plurality of linked files for inclusion within the collection of linked files; identifying a map of links among the plurality of linked files; analyzing the map of links to determine a group among the plurality of linked files based on a characteristic common to each file in the plurality of linked files; creating additional hypertext links that link to files within the group by hyperbinding; and storing the additional hypertext links in one of the plurality of linked files or in a new file that is added to the collection.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 109 words
A method of automatically adding organizational information to a collection of linked files comprising the steps of: gathering a plurality of linked files for inclusion within the collection of linked files; identifying a map of links among the plurality of linked files; analyzing the map of links to determine a group among the plurality of linked files based on a characteristic common to each file in the plurality of linked files; creating additional hypertext links that link to files within the group by hyperbinding; and storing the additional hypertext links in one of the plurality of linked files or in a new file that is added to the collection.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method according to claim 1 wherein the group is determined based on a common hierarchical level within the collection of linked files.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
The method according to claim 1 wherein the group is determined based on a further step of link density analysis of the map of the collection.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
The method according to claim 1 wherein the group is determined based on a step of comparing similarity of content among the plurality of linked files in the collection.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method according to claim 1 wherein the additional hypertext links are added to the collection interactively with the participation of an author.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 22 words
The method according to claim 5 wherein the interaction allows an author to modify the additional links with the addition of text.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method according to claim 5 wherein the interaction allows an author to modify the additional links with the addition of graphical material.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 28 words
The method according to claim 4 wherein similarity of content is determined based on the occurrence of specific tags in the plurality of linked files in the collection.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 28 words
The method according to claim 4 wherein similarity of content is determined based on the occurrence of specific words in the plurality of linked files in the collection.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 28 words
The method according to claim 4 wherein similarity of content is determined based on the occurrence of specific phrases in the plurality of linked files in the collection.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 33 words
The method according to claim 4 wherein similarity of content is based on the occurrence in the files of words or phrases that occur infrequently in the language being used in the collection.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 37 words
The method according to claim 4 wherein similarity of content is based on linguistic analysis of the plurality of linked files which serves to identify unique words and phrases and a type of usage within the collection.
