Abstract
Abstract A communication system supports multiple modulation/FEC coding schemes. One scheme is selected for initiating transmission on the link. The performance of the transmissions is evaluated after a variable update interval expires. The update interval is varied as a function of time, amount of information, LLC blocks, etc., in order to optimize throughput in the system. A shorter update interval can be used initially until an optimal modulation/FEC coding scheme is determined for a particular data transmission.
