Abstract

Abstract An electrical machine system includes at least one electrical machine, such as a switched reluctance machine, that produces a magnetic field. According to one embodiment, the machine is a rotary machine with a rotor, a stator, and a sensor for indicating their relative movement. The sensor of the controller is powered by a power supply unit, the power output of the power supply unit being derived from the magnetic field of the machine. The power supply preferably is isolated electrically from the current running in the machine, and from the power supply for the machine, reducing the risk of voltage transience, noise, and other undesirable interference. A corresponding method provides similar advantages.
