Abstract

Abstract A method of driving a CD-ROM drive is provided which includes the steps of setting an initial driving speed of a disk to a predetermined N× speed, and measuring a length of time t required for generating a correction error signal (CES) of a digital signal processor (DSP) while playing the disk at the predetermined N× speed. If it is determined that the measured CES generation time t is smaller than a first reference time t 1 , then the disk is played at N× speed. If it is determined that the CES generation time t is equal to or greater than the first reference time t 1 , and smaller than a second reference time t 2 , the disk is played at (N-2)×speed. If it is determined that the CES generation time t is equal to or greater than an (n-1)th reference time t n-1 and smaller than an nth reference time t n after the algorithm is sequentially repeated for all reference times between t 1 and t n , the disk is played at 2× speed. If the CES generation time t is equal to or greater than the nth reference time t n , the playing of the disk is stopped.
