Abstract

Abstract The present invention is based upon the surprising discovery that NAALADase inhibitors exhibit a significant inhibitory effect on the growth of prostate cancer cells. The present disclosure relates to methods of treating diseases of the prostate, in particular prostate cancer, using novel compositions which inhibit N-Acetylated α-Linked Acidic Dipeptidase (NAALADase) enzyme activity in humans and warm-blooded animals. Furthermore, as NAALADase has been found in other tissues of the body it may serve as a cancer associated protein and thus NAALADase inhibitors would be expected to show efficacy in the treatment of other forms of cancer.
