Stress tolerant bolometer

Claim 2

A bolometer array, comprising: (a) a plurality of active bolometers, each of said bolometers suspended over a substrate, each of said active bolometers with resistance dependent upon temperature; (b) each of said active bolometers with a plurality of support arms supporting said each active bolometer on said substrate; and (c) a plurality of dummy bolometers connected to said plurality of active bolometers, said dummy bolometers supported by support arms, and said dummy bolometers contacting said substrate.

Claim 3

The bolometer array of claim 1, wherein: (a) said active bolometers are arranged in rows and columns; and (b) said dummy bolometers form a row and column along the periphery of said active bolometer rows and columns.

Claim 4

The bolometer array of claim 2, wherein: (a) each of said active bolometers is roughly square with each of two diagonally opposed corners connected to a corresponding one of said support arms.

Claim 5

The bolometer array of claim 3, wherein: (a) each of said active bolometers connects to any adjacent active or dummy bolometers at corners not connected to said support arms.

Claim 6

The bolometer array of claim 2, wherein: (a) each of said dummy bolometers is roughly square with two diagonally opposed corners each connecting to a corresponding one of said support arms, and the support arm remote from said active bolometer at said contact of said dummy bolometer with said substrate.

Claim 7

A bolometer array, comprising: (a) a substrate with parallel conductors on a surface; (b) rows and columns of roughly square active bolometers suspended over said surface, said columns parallel to and over said conductors; (c) a periphery of dummy bolometers about said rows and columns of active bolometers, said dummy bolometers contacting said substrate; (d) a bolometer support at each of two diagonally opposed corners of each of said active and dummy bolometers, each of said bolometer supports connecting adjacent active or dummy bolometers to one of said conductors.

Claim 8

A bolometer array, comprising: (a) a substrate with parallel conductors on a surface; (b) rows and columns of roughly square active bolometers suspended over said surface, said columns parallel to and over said conductors; (c) a periphery of dummy bolometers about said rows and columns of active bolometers, said dummy bolometers contacting said substrate; (d) a bolometer support at each of two diagonally opposed corners of each of said active and dummy bolometers, each of said bolometer supports connecting adjacent active or dummy bolometers to one of said conductors.

Claim 9

The bolometer array of claim 6, wherein: (a) each of said active and dummy bolometers includes a resistive membrane and an absorber; and (b) said bolometer supports and said resistive membranes include a common layer of material.
