Abstract

Abstract The invention relates to a rapid exchange catheter system comprising a exchange member having proximal and distal ends, the distal end of the rigid shaft being integral with the proximal end of the exchange member, such that said shaft is adapted to advance the exchange member distally to a desired location wherein the exchange member is positioned concentrically to a catheter shaft.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 148 words
A rapid exchange catheter system comprising: (a) an exchange member defining a lumen and having open proximal and distal ends, (b) a rigid pushing wire having proximal and distal ends, the distal end of the pushing wire being integral with the proximal end of the exchange member, and (c) an exchangeable member which is capable of being positioned within the lumen defined by the exchange member, such that said pushing wire is configured to advance the exchange member distally to a desired location wherein the exchange member is positioned concentrically to the exchangeable member, wherein the pushing wire has a flexible, collapsible sheath having proximal and distal ends and being arranged thereon, such that the collapsible sheath expands with infusion of fluid or insertion of a catheter, guidewire, or other device, and when fluid flow ceases or the catheter, guidewire, or other device is withdrawn, the sheath collapses.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 148 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 28 words
The system of claim 1 wherein the proximal end of the collapsible sheath is attached to a hemostatic manifold or hub in fluid connection with the collapsible sheath.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
The system of claim 2, wherein the hemostatic manifold has an infusion port in fluid communication with the sheath.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
The system of claim 1, wherein said distal end of the collapsible sheath extends to the proximal end of the exchange member.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 29 words
The rapid exchange catheter system of claim 1, wherein the exchange member can be detached from the pushing wire at a desired site to act as a permanent stent.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 97 words
A rapid exchange catheter system comprising: (a) an exchange member defining a lumen and having open proximal and distal ends, (b) a rapid pushing wire having proximal and distal ends, the distal end of the pushing wire being integral with and non-detachable from the proximal end of the exchange member, and (c) an exchangeable member which is capable of being positioned within the lumen defined by the exchange member, such that said pushing wire is configured to advance the exchange member distally to a desired location wherein the exchange member is positioned concentrically to the exchangeable member.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 97 words
A rapid exchange catheter system comprising: (a) an exchange member defining a lumen and having open proximal and distal ends, (b) a rapid pushing wire having proximal and distal ends, the distal end of the pushing wire being integral with and non-detachable from the proximal end of the exchange member, and (c) an exchangeable member which is capable of being positioned within the lumen defined by the exchange member, such that said pushing wire is configured to advance the exchange member distally to a desired location wherein the exchange member is positioned concentrically to the exchangeable member.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 12 words
The system of claim 6, wherein the exchange member is a coil.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 22 words
The system of claim 6, wherein the pushing wire and exchange member are each comprised of a medically acceptable metal or polymer.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 20 words
The system of claim 6, wherein the pushing wire extends to at least the distal end of the exchange member.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 12 words
The system of claim 6, wherein the pushing wire is a guidewire.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 29 words
The system of claim 6, wherein the exchangeable member is selected from the group consisting of catheters, balloon dilatation catheters, guidewires, stents, perfusion catheters, infusion catheters, and atherectomy catheters.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 12 words
The system of claim 11, which comprises at least two exchangeable members.
